These notes bring to light historiographical considerations regarding the activity of resistance to slavery in the territory of the city of Alcântara, Maranhão, by analyzing a document found during researches in Notary of that city. This is a rare opportunity to observe the individual and detailed strategies and practices of resistance in a region where admittedly scarce writings on the process of emancipation of the enslaved and the formation of ethnic territories, currently identified as remnants of Quilombo areas.
